Who Said It? (HSUS/PETA Edition)

HSUSequalsPeta

There’s really not much difference between the goals of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the well-known and ridiculous People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). HSUS just deceives people into thinking it’s all about caring for the abandoned and abused animals in its commercials, when in fact it shovels millions towards seeking the same animal rights objectives at PETA. Different means, same end.

So here’s a little quiz. For each of the quotes below, do you think it was said by a PETA person, or an HSUS person? This may be harder than you think, but if you get 100%, we’ll give you a vegan cookie. Or at least a figurative pat on the back.

Who said, "In fact, I don't want to see another cat or dog born"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
Wayne Pacelle, HSUS CEO, in Bloodties (1994)

Who said, "In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
That was Ingrid Newkirk, PETA co-founder. Remarkably similar sentiment to Wayne Pacelle, no?

Who said, "Anybody who eats meat is guilty of holding the same mindset that allowed the Holocaust to happen"

HSUS Person PETA Person
Trick question: It's both (kinda). That's Matt Prescott while he was at PETA. He's now at HSUS as its 'food policy director'.

Who said, "I will be the last person to condemn ALF [the Animal Liberation Front]"

HSUS Person PETA Person
That's Ingrid Newkirk. HSUS just employs a former 'spokesperson' for the ALF

Who said, "We don't want any of these animals to be raised and killed"

HSUS Person PETA Person
Miyun Park, when she was an HSUS vice president.

Miyun Park, when she was an HSUS vice president.

Who said, "We are complete press sluts"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
This one is Ingrid Newkirk again. But really, it could just as easily be someone at HSUS considering how many press releases HSUS puts out.

Who said, "Eating meat causes animal cruelty"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
That's Paul Shapiro, a vice president for HSUS.

Who said, "There's never an excuse to eat and kill an animal"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
That's Matt Prescott again, when he was with PETA (he is now with HSUS).

Who said, "[Eating meat] is not your personal decision, any more than, you know, whether somebody beats their child is their personal decision"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
Bruce Friedrich, former PETA VP, at the 'Animal Rights 2002' conference.

Who said, "My goal is the abolition of all animal agriculture"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
J.P. Goodwin, former 'spokesperson' for the ALF, now with HSUS.

HSUS Person PETA Person
Josh Balk, HSUS corporate campaigner.

Who said, "Did we euthanize some animals who could have been adopted? Maybe"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
PETA's Daphna Nachminovitch. PETA actually runs a 'shelter'. HSUS doesn't even run a single one.

Who said, "A perfect example of effective rebellion is an Animal Liberation Front raid on a laboratory... Sure, the activists broke the law, but all of their activities focused directly on saving animals and exposing cruelty"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
Michael Markarian, now a senior HSUS executive, in a 1997 essay.

Who said, "I think it would be great if all of the fast-food outlets, slaughterhouses, these laboratories, and the banks that fund them exploded tomorrow"?

HSUS Person PETA Person
Bruce Friedrich, former PETA VP, at the 'Animal Rights 2001' conference.
