As for the Iowa bill it is a sad lesson learned that we all should heed. Do not rely on “someone else” to stand up for your rights. I wonder if the Farm Bureau and the hunting organizations will change their tune when it’s their turn to face the HSUS. I can only believe in mass hysteria as an excuse for such a dismal response to such an undeniable threat. And to use it as a photo op that made the headlines for the HSUS webpage as the governor signed it at a local rescue with his shelter dog at his side was a slap in the face. To all you dog breeders in Iowa there are many of us out here that are as sick of this thought as you are.
I left a comment at the article under “list of people who hate your way of life.” I was surprised to be the first commenter, and I was surprised that my comment was even posted. The only other comments so far are from Sarah and Hillary of HSUS. No surprise there.
More comments are needed. The blog-site states comments must be positive. Have some fun and leave a comment.
Re: Iowa legislation
Nancy is right on about not relying on someone else to stand up for you. In a nutshell, kennel owners were basically told to sit down and shut up. Contacting legislators about HF 2280 would “irritate them” and a lobby day “would make them angry”. Direct quotes.
Here’s a few other documented items:
“was told by key lkegislators that there was going to be a bill passed this year. We had a choice of being a part of the process, or end up with something far worse…..” “our industry did not have the ability to stop this legislation from going through the chambers..” Of course not. Not when voices are silenced.
“told by the legislators writing this bill that we needed to cooperate..”
There’s more, but you get the jist of it.
Then, when two legislators contact a person and one specifically says to be very suspect of someone that tells you not to contact your legislators, well, it sure raises some questions of suspicion.
Hard, bitter lesson by kennel owners - you need open your mouth, speak, someone doesn’t like it, tough. It’s your right.

The first part of the interview with Wayne Pacelle here:
http://www.satyamag.com/jun05/pacelle.html
reads like a confession: Wayne and his stooges are actively involved in violating Section 501(c) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code which states:
a 501 (c)(3) ‘may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.’
