We Have a New Favorite Dog Food

Three giant "woofs" for Hill's Pet Nutrition!
Following the lead of companies like Yellow Tail wine, Pilot Travel Centers, and Precious Cat Kitty Litter, the makers of Science Diet pet food have made a formal statement confirming that it's no longer contributing money to the Humane Society of the United States. There are still too many companies helping this deceptive organization, but today that list shrank by one.
To those of you who wrote letters and made phone calls—things you did without our prompting, by the way—we're in awe. This really shows that companies can do the right thing if only they have accurate information.
About 90 minutes ago, Hill's began sending replies to everyone who expressed their concerns via e-mail.
Here's the message, which many of you have forwarded to us (you can stop now):

Subject: In Response To Your E-mailDear Valued Pet Owner,
Thank you for contacting us about your concern with our recent activity on Care2.com. Hill’s has discontinued the program with HSUS on the Care2.com website.
Hill’s is committed to supporting animal welfare and leads the industry in shelter donations. Since 2002, Hill’s has donated over 113 million pounds of food to over 1,100 shelters nationwide.
Please call our Consumer Affairs line with any questions at 800-445-5777. Thank you for your passion for pets.
Sincerely,
Hill’s Pet Nutrition
Now, everyone: Go out and show your love to these guys. If you don't have a dog, buy some Science Diet for your neighbor's pooch.
We hear the Oreck vacuum cleaner company may not yet fully understand the message its relationship with HSUS is sending to its customers. And they're on Facebook. We're just sayin'.

I just got my letter!!!!!
This is amazing! Hey Humane watch, whether you prompted us to act or not, I would not have known had you not posted the info here. Thank you.

Yes, I received the same email, but I immediately noticed that the wording did not say that Hills was not donating to HSUS—just that it was not doing so via the Care.2 website.
I also just received my reply. I replied and thanked them for withdrawing from the Care2.com program but also asked them if there are other programs they participate with H$U$. If I read their form letter correctly it makes it sound like Hill’s only stopped their support of this program because that is the one we know about. It also sounds like a carefully worded reply to everyone that sent them a message but I am not fully satisfied that they have ended “ALL” of their support for H$U$.
Great team work! I will write Hill’s to thank them and continue buying Hill’s Products. I think Oreck needs to hear from more of us. Thanks again Humane Watch for creating a central location to stay informed and work together as a united voice that is heard against HSUS.
Good news!
Sorry, no kudos yet. That note IS too carefully worded. Want to know how much they funded to HSUS and its like too.
Tired of it. These days, even if you DID know better or are in an industry and SHOULD know better, all you have to do is mouth “sorry, won’t do it again” and there’s no consequences so no incentive not to return to the same bad behavior immediately. When they really make amends for however much they gave, then I’ll reconsider.
Ok..so Hill’s caved and walked away from HSUS…but they still make lously dog food…....suggest anyone using ‘science’ that they try to obtain Purina’s version…..
Oh please DON’T go and buy Purina! Purina ois owned by Nestlé and for some reasons why they are a seriously unpleasant company to back try this one http://www.babymilkaction.org/pages/boycott.html . I’d almost rather support H$U$... almost…
I share John Galt and PJB’s concerns that even though one program has been discontinued, that their support for HSUS may not be completely withdrawn.
Hills, Science Diet, Prescription Diet, Purina all use poor quality ingredients. DO NOT USE!!! Do your research, listen to your groomer. Dogs lack the enzyme to digest grains, corn, wheat, soy are all cheap fillers.
