The Visual HSUS, Part 4

Today we're releasing Part 4 in our “Visual HSUS” series. Our new graphic features three quotes surrounding HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle’s now infamous statement about convicted dogfighting kingpin Michael Vick’s suitability as a pet owner.

Pacelle told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in December that Vick “would do a good job as a pet owner.” (The Philadelphia Eagles, perhaps coincidentally, had given HSUS a $50,000 “grant.”) Animal lovers everywhere were outraged, and we helped spread the word with a full-page New York Times ad.

Pacelle quickly tried to weasel his way out of the controversy he started. Then last month he claimed the Journal-Constitution had “misquoted” him. We asked the reporter if he stood by his reporting, and he did.
